Teresa A. Sullivan (SOCEC ’70), provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at the University of Michigan, will become the president of the University of Virginia on August 1 when John T. Casteen III retires, the university announced Monday. Ms. Sullivan will be Virginia's first female president and its eighth over all.  Ms. Sullivan, a sociologist who specializes in labor-force demography, has more than 15 years of experience as an administrator at large public universities. Madison Students Coordinate Policy Conference on Economic Development and Urban Issues

Monika Johnson (IR junior) was the Midwest regional coordinator of the Roosevelt Institute’s November 2009 “Midwest v2.0: New Innovations, Re-energized Workforce, Sustainable Future” conference.  The conference was held at the MSU Detroit Center. Dan Blue (IR/Economics/Arabic senior), who was also involved in the conference, is the MSU Chapter President and a national senior fellow for the Roosevelt Institute.  The conference was featured in TIME Magazine's Detroit Blog.
